As the Olympic torch makes its way to the 2024 Paris Games, the Los Angeles region has its own torch story to tell—this one about the passing of a torch as one volunteer-led era segues into a new one. Here’s the news from our Regional Team leaders, in their own words:

Sally Jones Rogan, SCBWI-L.A. Regional Advisor, with a message and a reminder

A Letter from Sally Jones Rogan

Dear Los Angeles members,

Some weeks back, candidates were invited to apply for volunteer L.A. Regional Advisors. We are thrilled to announce that SCBWI Headquarters has appointed our very own Kim Wildman to step into the L.A. Regional Advisor role.

Many of you will already know Kim as our highly capable Assistant Regional Advisor (ARA, or as we aptly renamed the title, “Always Running Around”)! Kim has many years of experience as a Regional Team volunteer and is perfectly suited to spearhead events, present member opportunities, lead the regional volunteer team, and undertake the administrative duties and reporting required by SCBWI Headquarters.

For the time being, I will remain in my volunteer Regional Advisor role to help with the workload as we wait for the appointment of a new ARA to fill Kim’s previous position. While we and the rest of the L.A. board members are working hard to ensure a smooth transition, we would be grateful for your patience regarding responses from the losangeles@scbwi.org email. General SCBWI and membership queries should be addressed to the main SCBWI website at SCBWI.org.

Don’t forget to follow the Los Angeles region (available in your member profile) to ensure you receive local region news.

Congratulations and thanks for stepping up to volunteer, Kim.

A Letter from Kim Wildman

Hello LA,

I’m excited to step into the role of Regional Advisor. Thank you, Sally and Nutschell, for all you did to help prepare me.

SCBWI has always been a cherished source of learning and community for me, in service to our most precious resource—our children. The magic we as creatives produce helps shape a future for them worth having.

Please feel free to contact me if you have ideas, suggestions or a desire to volunteer in our collective effort to keep Los Angeles the vibrant region that it is. Looking forward to seeing you at one of our in-person events soon.

– Kim

And, of course, during this transition, a Kite Tales shout-out must go out to Sally and her Co-Regional Advisor Nutschell A. Windsor, for their spirited and caring leadership over so many years! Thank you for the signature events, joy-filled gatherings, region-sponsored opportunities to meet-and-greet-and-become-friends, and the encouraging reminders to dream our kidlit lives into fruition. We’re not singing a torch song today because the love is requited. Wishing you nothing but the best in your new chapters! We know we’ll see you around.
