Invitation to share a short book review for SCBWI: The Blog
Have you heard…? September is World Kid Lit Month! It’s time to discover new horizons and travel the world by book.
SCBWI is thrilled to be coordinating a World Kid Lit special at the Official SCBWI Blog, and we would love for you to be involved. This invitation is open to SCBWI members anywhere.
In September we will have four blog posts celebrating children’s and YA literature from around the world. Each week there will be an article with mini book recommendations, each focusing on a continent: the Americas, Africa, Asia & Oceania, and Europe.
We would love to include your short, informal book recommendations of children’s or teen books that fit the following criteria:
- Books translated into English from another language (please #namethetranslator and the language it’s translated from!)
- Books first published in English outside of the UK and USA
- Books set in countries other than the UK and USA, by authors with lived experience of that country and culture
Please email World Kid Lit (worldkidlit@gmail.com) with your book recommendation, answering the following questions:
1. Which continent is your book recommendation for?
2. What country does it relate to?
3. Tell us about the book (max 80–100 words). Include a short description of the story, the themes, and the characters. How did you come across the book? What did you enjoy about it? Who would you recommend it to (any comparisons with books published recently)? Has it increased your interest in reading more by the author or from that part of the world? Did you read it with any young people in your life and if so, what did they think?
4. Tell us about yourself (biography max 40 words).
5. Please also send a photo of yourself.
6. Which SCBWI chapter are you a member of?
7. Please email with subject line: SCBWI BLOG SEPT.
Note: You may send us a review for more than one continent if you have more than one book you’d like to share, but if we have a lot of submissions we may include only one per submitter.
