Register today for the annual SCBWI 2026 Winter Conference in New York City! This weekend-long event runs from Friday, January 16, 2026, to Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the Marriott Marquis Times Square. Folks who register for the in-person conference will also get a $20 discount on the Virtual Winter Conference! The cost to attend does not include accommodations. A limited number of rooms are available at this rate up until December 26, 2025.”

From Friday, February 6, 2026, to Saturday, February 7, 2026, “join us online for exclusive industry panels, hands-on sessions focused on the craft of writing and illustrating children’s books, plus valuable networking with fellow creators. Whether you’re looking to sharpen your skills, gain insider knowledge, or connect with other talented authors and illustrators, this event is for you! If you can’t make it to the live sessions, video replays will be available to view through March 15th.” Early bird rates are available through December 21, 2025, so don’t miss out on this special deal!
DECEMBER 5
Request an application for the SCBWI-LA Assistant Co-Regional Advisor by December 5, 2025! This is a volunteer (unpaid) role that comes with several perks, such as free membership in SCBWI during your time of service, free/reduced registration for SCBWI’s international conferences and regional events, and eligibility for special professional development grants. If you are interested, “please email Patricia Wiles, SCBWI’s Director of Regional Team Management, at patriciawiles@scbwi.org to request an application by December 5, 2025, and write ‘Co-ARA Los Angeles’ in the subject line. Along with the application, you’ll receive an application information booklet that describes an ARA’s duties and responsibilities.”

Support local comic creators at Comic Arts LA from December 13–14, 2025! This free event at the Homenetmen Ararat North Campus promotes “the appreciation of comics, graphic novels, and sequential arts among the broader Los Angeles public.” Be sure to add it to your calendar!

Registration for the 2026 SCBWI SoCal Art Day Story Bloom for Illustrators, Picture Book Writers and Graphic Novelists opens on January 1, 2026! Join us for a day of hands-on workshops at the Laguna College of Art and Design on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We hope to see you there!

Scholarship applications to attend the SCBWI 2026 Virtual Winter Conference are due by midnight PST on January 9, 2026. All applicants must be current SCBWI members. For more information on how to submit your application, click the link here.

Register now for the virtual Picture Book Creators Conference! On Friday, January 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CST, attendees will have the opportunity to “dive into six jam-packed sessions designed specifically for aspiring picture book authors.” There will also be opportunities to pitch your projects and get critiques on your manuscript.
