Join SCBWI Los Angeles for a free online holiday social! The SCBWI Los Angeles Region Holiday Zoom will take place on December 10, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom. “Meet the new Los Angeles Regional Team and learn about our upcoming events for 2025!” Attendees MUST register to attend. The meeting will not be recorded.

DECEMBER 15
Submit your application now for the SCBWI General Conference Scholarship! “This scholarship provides tuition to the SCBWI Virtual Winter Conference for any SCBWI member experiencing financial hardship. SCBWI members only.” The scholarship portal will close on December 15, 2024. For more information about the submission guidelines, click here.

JANUARY 1
Calling all writers! PEN America’s U.S. Writers Aid Initiative is offering grants for “writers in the United States facing acute financial need following an emergency situation.” Funds are limited, and not every application can be supported. Grant decisions are made on a quarterly basis using established guidelines to evaluate professional credentials. Click here to learn more. Applications for this quarter are due January 1, 2025.

JANUARY 14
Have you ever wanted to see your scene come to life? Get ready to look at your writing in a whole new way…and have some fun in the process! No acting skills required. 2025 Theater Camp For Writers: A 2-Part Workshop responds to the question: What do the disciplines of directing, acting, and improv have to teach us as writers? Sessions will include lecture, writing exercises, and most distinctly, scene work for your stories in progress, with volunteer actors from the group taking part in live readings (for our initial online meeting) and “play rehearsal” style staging (for our in-person workshop), all while individual authors watch, direct, and receive feedback on character, action, dialogue, voice, narration, pacing, and more.

JANUARY 24–26
Registration for SCBWI CenCal’s 2025 Writers Retreat – Focus & Flourish is now open! Back by popular demand, the retreat will be held at the Cavalier Inn in San Simeon from January 24–26. Join us for some inspirational opening and closing sessions, optional critique groups, and plenty of time to write.
