GREAT NEWS

Christine Brallier’s picture book illustrations have been featured on Julie Danielson’s blog, Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast (http://blaine.org/sevenimpossiblethings/?p=3610). Christine is a stained glass mosaic artist and the post shows the mosaic process in detail, from first sketch to final artwork. She was also recently interviewed by Kathy Temean on her blog, Writing and Illustrating (https://kathytemean.wordpress.com/2015/01/10/illustrator-saturday-christine-brallier/), and her illustrated book, The Night Before Christmas, was featured at Fuse #8 Productions where Betsy Bird said it was “one of the most beautiful Christmas children’s books I’ve ever seen.” Wonderful press for a self published book!

Last year, Terry Lim Diefenbach did 3 illustration assignments for Learning A-Z. Learning A-Z is part of an on-line publisher of educational materials providing downloads via subscriptions. Here are links to the two texts Terry did for Learning A-Z as part of their leveled reading program.

Joan Bransfield Graham‘s book The Poem That Will Not End: Fun with Poetic Forms and Voices was selected by U.S. Children’s Poet Laureate Kenn Nesbitt as his December pick on the Poetry Foundation website. In his review he said the book “belongs in every classroom and school library, and in the hands of every young reader who wants to know more about poetry.” Joan’s poem “First Word” is featured in Lee Bennett Hopkins’ newest anthology Lullaby and Kisses Sweet: Poems to Love with Your Baby (Abrams, March 3). Visit Joan at  http://canetwork.weebly.com/joan-bransfield-graham.html .

Joan Bransfield Graham‘s book The Poem That Will Not End:  Fun with Poetic Forms and Voices was named a 2015 NCTE NOTABLE POETRY BOOK http://www.slj.com/2015/04/standards/introducing-the-ncte-2015-notable-poetry-list/ She also had poems published this spring in Dr. Sylvia Vardell’s and Janet Wong’s Poetry Friday Anthology (PFA) For Celebrations (Pomelo Books, 2015).

Patrice Karst’s book, The Invisible String, just came out in Hungary with new art.

Kerry Madden’ biography, Up Close Harper, (Penguin 2009, starred Kirkus and Booklist) for young adults is being re-released with an updated book cover, bio, and jacket flaps this July in conjunction with Harper Lee’s new book, Go Set a Watchman. Kerry will also be doing a workshop for kids at the Selma Dallas County Public Library on July 15th and donating royalties from Nothing Fancy about Kathryn &Charlie in Kathryn Tucker Windham’s name with Mockingbird Publishing.

Oxford University Press has published two of Farida Mirza’s picture books, A Bunny Rabbit’s Wish and Baboo’s Dream as bilingual books, in English and Urdu. Urdu is the language spoken in Pakistan. As bilingual books they will be available to children fluent in English as well as to the majority of children who are underprivileged and attend Urdu schools. A third picture book, Hala’s window is in English and is about a village girl whose curiosity and desire for knowledge opens the doors of education for her.  http://www.fmirza.com

Sherry Shahan’s YA novel Skin and Bones (A. Whitman) was released in paperback in March, 2015.

Joseph Taylor’s new piece, “Moving Art: The Story of Alexander Calder,” appears in the May/June 2015 issue of Cricket.

Gretchen Woelfle’s Mumbet’s Declaration of Independence made the International Literacy Association’s Children’s Choices 2015 Reading List.
